Hypothetical Question....

Do you think it is cheating if I use a paper I wrote last year for an assignment this year? Like, you know, recycled it?

    1. He says it is cheating and we are going to have a "talk" later when he gets home from his rehearsal.

  2. Well, Technically speaking, YOU did write this paper yourself correct? so, you did put in the actual work at some point - AND, since it came from your brain, you could almost write the same report!
So, we have a saying at my work, work smarter, not harder, and I feel that re writing a paper on the same subject is actually doing twice the work and it would be wise to just re use something that time was already put into.

Think of it this way, if you sewed a costume, would you wear it again at any point?
You put the effort in at the beginning, and it'd be wasteful not to use it again if you can.

    Plus recycling is good.

    Hope this helps....
    Good Luck!

  3. OK, your guys, we have a little expression in our family:
    WWJS? and WWJD?
Now, What WOULD John say to this? Moreso, What WILL John do when he finds out she's weaseling again?
And the paper she wants to use? Ummm, not what I consider her best work. She can do so much better, and without having ME write it.
He's going to want to spank each and every one of you for contributing to the delinquency of a brat.

  4. Hey! There was nothing wrong with that paper. Hmph.

  5. Uh oh... Better not listen to me because I practically get spanked daily for "weaseling" and or twisting the rules in my favor & what not. My "H" says I have an excuse for everything.
I like to think I'm good at debating, but seeing as I've been OTK both Friday and this morning.. Eh?
From one Brat to another maybe?

  6. I believe that's called, "working smarter, not harder." Why reinvent the wheel? But then again, you didn't learn anything new after recycling, and isn't that the point of education? Were the rules clear upfront that you COULDN'T recycle? Are there similar prohibitions against regifting?

  7. I don't know. I don't actually remember any rules saying I can't recycle. But I guess that is what the "talk" is about. Regifting? hmmmm

  8. Given that you don't need to cite yourself in a paper I would say this is perfectly acceptable. I would probably put this back on the person who gave you a similar or the same assignment two years in a row. I wouldn't say its recycling, its just refusing to reinvent the wheel. If it worked last time, it should work again :)

  9. Thanks Callie! OK so the assignment is to find an evidence bases practice article in an area of nursing that I am interested in. It can not be any older than 5 years. SO we do these a lot. Summarize these journal articles. The one last semester was a paper I had to write, APA format, the whole 9 yards. This time, it is for a 5 minute oral report to my clinical group. SO I thought I would just reuse the same topic from last time. Its not like I am turning in the same paper again.

  10. Hmm... it's still your work. Not cheating.

  11. Thanks Renee! Daddy's not home yet. Im getting nervous. He will be home in a few hours. I hope things go my way.

  12. It is technically still you work, you haven't copied anyone else so I say no cheating. It sounds form your comments above also that you haven't exactly reused the original paper in it's entirely, sounds as though you have re-worked it to some degree.

    Good luck!

  13. exactly Roz! See, Daddy wants me to research a new article. But i just don't feel like it. I would much rather watch football tomorrow! Of course my team doesn't play until Monday (go Steeler's)!!So I guess it wont be that much of a hardship..

  14. i think i'm gonna step up and give a professional opinion as a teacher - that if a student DID their own paper at some point and handed that in, then had to give a report on an area of their choosing, and chose to use the same material as the the written homework from a previous assignment, it would be totally ACCEPTABLE.

unless there was a specific clause NOT to reuse material or choose a topic that they've worked on before.

besides, if you've written so many summaries, wont there be tons of stuff that won't be 100% new?

    (nice to meet you, btw)

    2. Hey Fondles,
Bree here... sorry, but Nikki shares this blog with me. Actually, she's kind of taking it over, LOL! In truth, John is finding Nikki's little stunt to be very amusing. He's doing a lot of tsking about the bratty subs around. As for him taking it out on her? Nah, she invites plenty without help!

  15. Hi Fondles! Thanks for dropping by and voting. I have done a lot of these and there is no rule for this particular assignment stating I can't recycle. Other than Daddy that is. He says I have to start from scratch. Darn him! He also said he plans to get on here and "have a little talk" with all the subbies that supported me. HAHA. I think that is so funny. Like you guys will even be scared.

  16. Even to suggest that deserves a good thrashing. Post a picture after it's been done.

  17. Hey Malcolm, Bree here.... I know, right? Don't count on the pix, though. John is very possessive of his bottoms. LOL!! Shoot, when I was going through school, I wouldn't have even dreamed of doing anything like this. Plus, John is a stickler for honesty. I'm sure you saw his comment to those subbies who are encouraging her bad behavior (as though she requires any more encouragement). LOL! Gotta love us brats, though.

  18. Gee Malcolm thanks for the support. Hmph! What is a thrashing anyway?
